One year ago, when I first arrived in Japan Hokkaido, I was all starry-eyed with wonderment and beyond excited for what life in an International school in Japan would bring. I barely knew any Japanese even though I was born in Japan, beyond basic travel essentials and my image of the country was glamorized by movies, news, and books. I believed I was coming to a place of dreams. Don’t get me wrong, I still love Japan, but I am beginning to understand and learn more about the country more than just sushi and beer.

I’m Chinese, but born in Japan, and have lived in Beijing and Shanghai most my life. My native language is Mandarin Chinese and my second language is English. Culture wise, Japan isn’t so different from China; there are common Asian values so culture shock was not an issue. Adapting to life was not a problem for me. While trying to deal with all the new life in this new school, but everything was still fun. I made new friends in school, other foreigners in my batch, and when classes started I made friends with both exchange and Japanese students.

Having to learn Japanese does not seem to act as a deterrent for me because I am Chinese ; reading Kanji is really easy for me and it’s pretty much the same. What I am having trouble is the pronunciations. I would sometimes feel a little confident about having an advantage over many others  learning the Japanese language because they can read and understand the meaning of most kanji characters. I have always believed in the value of preparation when attempting to try new things. For this reason, I decided I want to complete  the further study and gaining professional work experience to prepare me for the demands of a degree in tourism. Since at a young age of my life, I realize that the world is a huge place and there is so much more to discover and I wish I can see every single bit of the world. In addition to that, I am also enjoying having the chance to improve my mathematics skills through completing the Key Skills Level 2 in mathematics. I have also been avidly studying travel publications aimed at those working in the industry and tourists themselves. Among my favourite publications are Destinations Travel Magazine, which has helped me to focus my mind on the marketing aspects of tourism and concepts such as different target markets, and National Geographic Traveller, whose thoughtful articles have prompted me to think about some of the conceptual aspects of the industry, such as the differences between inquisitive and acquisitive travel. The work has made me more interested in the marketing aspects of the tourism sector and has focused my mind on issues such as what motivates different people to travel and how different holiday experiences can be presented.

As a passionate traveler & dreamer with an endless enthusiasm for discovering new places, the tourism sector is undoubtedly the area in which I want to build a career, particularly within the areas of destination management or marketing. I see a degree in tourism as the ideal first step in making this goal become a reality.

With this PSP assignment , I read it through thoroughly to make sure if there is anything else that we can add to this. For instance, there are some minor spelling errors like with in into within, and when to add ands, also some punctuation errors. Peers has giving me some advise to move the words to the front to the front in order to make it sound more smoothly, for instance I Had ‘’Within the areas of destination management or marketing particularly’’. I have moved particularly to the front to make it more smoother so it’s Particularly within the area……….
